The project UNDER THE SAME SKY – LGBT COMMUNITY AND SOCIETY brought together young people from 5 countries. Teams from Slovenia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Greece and Romania met in Mansion Rakičan, Murska Sobota, Slovenia, in order to bring attention to the position of members of the LGBT community in different countries. The project also aims at spreading tolerance and raising awareness about LGBT community, so we can regard it as a natural part of society. Sharing of experience among national teams revealed that LGBT is, sadly, still a taboo or avoided topic in many cases, thus this project contributes greatly to make all colors more visible. At the beginning all the participants had a conversation about the topic. They all discovered a lot of similarities, between their countries, on the LGBT community issues that their societies are facing. So, they decided to act to make this world a better place for everyone. They took part in activities where they were promoting the LGBT community and they had interaction with the local people sharing their opinion on the topic. Also, a great challenge for everyone personally and for the whole group was the flash mob activity that took place on the central square of City Maribor. Participants learned a complicated choreography, defeated their fears and performed publicly to a big crowd of city residents and visitors. Afterwards, they distributed condoms and cookies they baked the night before, to remind once again that we all should share only love and care, and not hate or any unwanted microflora. Accepting and friendly smiles of passersby, when they received rainbow flags from the hands of our activists, was the greatest reward for our effort, which confirmed we are now a more visible and integral part of a diverse community. During the workshops of the project, mixed teams of participants developed their ideas and propositions on how to improve the LGBT situation and representation in different towns, cities and institutions. Promo video of project Here in Slovenia, 35 people saw and enjoyed the colorful and uniting sky that made us forget we were from different countries or social groups. The meeting has ended, but the great endeavor is still far from completion. We hope that these ripples we caused will spread across the 500 million population of Europe and incite other activists to join our commitment to equality and solidarity.
